Dai Lei graduated from Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts, now is a teacher in the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts.

But he paints not just because of his career.

In 2014, Dai Lei got his daughter, named as Ann was full of his expectation of happy and hope. At first, he also bought the camera, want to record the every moment of growth of her daughter. The photo records the newly born Ann, happy Ann, crying Ann. Bright and delightful. But he felt that the photo was not good enough to record.

“Heavy exposure to lens, the child will be conditioned to pose, people always want to shoot more perfect pictures, but only adult can get this sense of achievement. I hope to have more interaction with the child's themselves. "Dai Lei said that life should not be a photo of a perfect picture, but something the whole family want to remember.

"The Adventures of Ann"

One day, Dai Lei was telling story for Ann, casually draw some animals of story in the paper, then add Ann in the picture. “then I suddenly realized: why not draw painting for Ann everyday" Since that, his second drawing career starts.

However, Dai Lei didn’t draw Ann like a little princess.On the contrary, Dad gave Ann a series of adventure opportunities.

Drawing in white and black is more time-saving and convenient.

In addition to the special theme, the color of these paintings is not bright. Paintings are basically black and white, strokes tough and unrestrained. Dai Lei said that he himself is a person like to blend a variety of elements to imagine, so are Ann’s painting. Look at these paintings, the core of the theme is actually derived from a variety of trivial things, such as a news, a movie, an exhibition or a game, when he got touched, he painted them down.

"Dad's expectations"

When he was painting, if Anne wanted to participate , he would hold her. and if Ann wanted to play around, let her go and play. "I will not deliberately guide her to paint or do anything else." He never feel complacent about what he was doing for her daughter. 。

But sometimes Ann also want to draw, Dai Lei would help her prepare the paper. Ann is usually smeared for a while, put down the pen and ran away, Dai Lei will take her "painting" as his own challenges, add into mountain jungle or small fish and other elements, make it smart and lovely.

As for other's praise, Dai Lei seems very calm and peace, "Now I do not ask her to understand the contents of the painting, and I do not ask her to get touched by what I have done for her.”

Dai Lei said that he painted these paintings without established goals, "I hope that Ann could have different feelings and understanding at different ages from these paintings." In the eyes of Dai Lei, these paintings are his and her daughter's common growth memories, reflecting his understanding of the surrounding world.
